“I Gave Him The Whole Nine Yards!”

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY! What better day to talk about football cliche’s? Well, actually, the phrase: “Full nine yards”, has nothing to do with football. Its a term that stems from World War II fighters. The picture above shows the wings of a P-47 Thunderbolt being loaded, each 50 calibre gun was loaded with a nine yard long belt of bullets. And that is where the quip: “I gave him the full nine yards.” comes from. Fighter pilots talking with their hands bragging or lamenting (depending on result) he shot every round he had at a Bandit.

I capture this world in my Aviator Series, strap it on and take it for a ride.
